Beyond “Torture Porn”
On Day 25, we looked into the master of suspense with the great Alfred Hitchcock in Hitchcockian Thrills. Today, Day 26 of 31 Days of Horror Movie Challenge: Torture Chamber Chills, we explore three different torture methods used in horror cinema history, with a more contemporary take showcasing the last twenty years. 2004’s Saw brought in the “torture porn” subgenre with its sadistic traps. 2011’s The Cabin In The Woods cleverly manipulates audience expectations offering a fresh perspective with horror manipulation. Lastly, not a stranger to cinema history with the 2020 edition of The Invisible Man, exploring psychological torture rather than physical torture, creating a constant state of fear and paranoia for the protagonist. These films showcase diversity within the torture-themed horror genre.
